In your case hitting 15 and catching an ace gives you 16 which is not over Card counting is not much of an option online, although the possibility does exist in the live-dealer games that a few places offer. I play occasionally, but when I play…I play to win. Variations of the game are played depending on the establishment, but the basic format is the same across the board. In that hand doubling costs the player just under 0. This is an awfully good ratio in favor of the player. Let me know if either of these ideas works.
What Makes our Free Blackjack Game Different?
And finally the obvious: I know that one software company randomly picks two cards in the deck and reverses them, and repeats this numerous times. Since learning of this technique, that is also how I shuffle in my random simulation programs. As long as any method of shuffling is done enough times the deck should be properly randomized. Manual shuffling is more vulnerable to a biased shuffle and consequently some players try to exploit this by shuffle tracking and card clumping. There are numerous ways an online casino might cheat, but a bad shuffle I don't think is one of them.
Wanted to know if you have ever played Vegas Palms. They use Microgaming for their blackjack. I have never seen such a streaky game.
I have lost 18 out of 20 hands and 1 hour later won 23 out of It seems that every time I play it turns out to be a streak one way or the other. I am just happy that I have had more winning streaks than losing streaks. I also like their Cyberstud Poker. It is close to Caribbean Stud, but I think the payouts are a little different i.
I have yet to have a losing session playing this game. One hand I did lose. I would like to get you to figure the odds of it happening. I had a diamond flush king high and got beat by a spade flush ace high. What are the odds of 2 flushes in one had?
I have never played at the Vegas Palms. However, I have a lot of faith in the fairness of Microgaming and believe that it is just chance you are having streaky games. Cyberstud poker is the same thing as Caribbean Stud Poker, with a slightly more generous pay table.
The expected return is 5. I recently started gambling online and like your site more than any other gambling site I've found. Somewhere I remember you wrote that every online casino you'd seen shuffled the decks after every game.
By game to you mean hand? Also, if they shuffle after every hand, doesn't this minimize the benefit of card counting? Is there any significant benefit to card counting in that case? However, the six-deck game at Unified Gaming casinos shuffles at a random point in the deck. I have heard of other casinos that also penetrate more than one hand into a shoe, but I don't recall which ones.
If the cards are shuffled after every hand there is no use in card counting, other than applying my composition dependent basic strategy exceptions.
I noticed in your online review of casinos that you mentioned in Apolla that you played units of blackjack and lost Does this mean you played hands and lost only 98? This is an awfully good ratio in favor of the player.
I lost 98 units there overall. If every hand was an even money win or a loss then I would have won hands and lost Your site is great. Being a beginner it has given me lots of good advice. Thanks for the compliments. Most online casinos shuffle the cards after every hand. At single deck casinos Boss Media version 1, Microgaming, Unified Gaming you can use the cards already on the table to alter your play sometimes.
See my blackjack appendix3A for all the details. There are some casinos that play into a shoe a little way but not far, and have restrictive betting limits. I have yet to be convinced of any worthwhile opportunity on the Internet to count cards. The Question I have is about Microgaming Blackjack. I have played the for fun version of about 10 online casino trying to determine the best one and I run into a question I have yet been able to understand. Out of about games or more at each casino I found out some days using the basic strategy for the casino from your web site I stay just about even with the dealer and some times show a small credit profit.
But other days I am lucky to win 20 hands out of And I never stray from the strategy and just bet an even bet. Is this normal that some days the random generator is set up to sway the dealers way for a long period of time and if so does it ever sway the players way that much too?
I sure would like to know more because I really enjoy the game and am not wanting to make a lot of money but when you are betting min. Please if you can educate me on this I would think you very much. I suspect you are exaggerating about sometimes only winning 20 hands out of , that would be very unlikely. Some people believe that Microgaming has a "take down" mode in which the player will lose like crazy for a period of time. It is to be expected that in any game the player will occasionally have bad losing streaks, as well as good winning streaks.
So these alleged "take down" periods I think are just normal bad luck and that all Microgaming casinos deal a fair game. My question is regarding on of your answers about "robot players" for online casinos. So, my question is, how can using a robot make any difference?
Who cares, and why would the casinos see this as a problem? Even if they play perfect BS, the house still has the advantage, right? What would the chances be over , The way I see it, since the expected outcome is an approximately Please help me understand this point! However some casinos do offer games with a player advantage if played properly. Unified Gaming had a blackjack game with an 0. Many Real Time Gaming casinos offer a joker poker game with an expected return of Other casinos have promotions in which the player who plays the most hands in a period of time wins a prize, in which a robot player would have a clear advantage.
About your second question the bell curve is a forward looking estimate of the sum of many random variables. You can not mix together past and future events. Once an event has happened it is no longer a random variable but a cold hard outcome. Starting from hand your results could fall anywhere on a new bell curve.
I hope this helps, but it really takes a course in statistics to truly understand. What is the best blackjack program to purchase for my pc. I want to learn to play BJ but since I am a beginner the tables are too intimidating. I would download some Internet casino software and just play in free mode. However to learn proper basic strategy I would recommend making flash cards with every possible play.
Dealing out cards at random will not test you often enough on the soft doubles and splits. I just wanted to make sure that the correct play in the Microgaming single deck game of A,A vs A is to split as shown on your basic strategy card. Any chance you have the EV of hitting vs splitting on this hand? Based on one deck the expected value of each hand considering the possibility of a dealer blackjack is Splitting is also better for the 4-deck game, which no Microgaming player should be playing since a 1-deck game with the same rules is available.
Why do land casinos make you bet more when playing a second hand in blackjack? When playing on line is there an advantage when playing two or more hands? This will slow down the game and possibly prevent bigger bettors from playing.
Not all land casinos have this rule, I think it is more prevalent in Atlantic City, where tables are more crowded, than Las Vegas.
Whether online or a land casino there is no advantage to playing more than one hand. I have down loaded many black jack games from internet both stand alone and on-line. Had played for long time and felt the games are different in difficulty to win especially the slot, pardon me if I am wrong.
If it is true than is there any way to find out if the online games are truly random or any trusted organization we can get truly depend on? It is a good sign if a casino has an independent auditor to review the log files for fairness and randomness. I used to provide such a service to online casinos myself. I have a question regarding the Microgaming no hole card rule for single deck BJ game.
I remember reading in some forum that you concluded there is no difference to the HA whether the hole card is dealt or not at the beginning of the game. I do notice that Microgaming has a higher chance of blackjack. Taking as an extreme example: Please let me know what you think. An unseen card is an unseen card, much in the same way the effect is the same whether the dealer burns a card or deals one less card out of the shoe.
I hope this answers your question. Is there software that will count cards as you input them? Can this be used to play online blackjack? Or does online blackjack shuffle after each hand? Have a look at Beejack. Most, but not all, casinos shuffle after every hand. I don't know if it practical to actually use this product. If you try it please let me know how you do, I might like to try it myself. The link to Beejack was removed in , due to a potential virus with that site.
Proceed there with caution. I read about someone winning 1. What is robot play, how does it win, and why is it illegal? First, the game was Caribbean 21, not Caribbean Stud. The casino this money was won from alleges that the player used robot play, which is against their terms and conditions. If this is true the player denies it then it is within their rights to forfeit the winnings. Robot play is a program that can read the cards on the screen and can play against the casino by itself, by simulated mouse moves and clicks, or keyboard actions.
Robot play could ensure nice expected hourly profits for the person using it, but not enough to bother actually playing. Some casinos with no positive expectation game allow robot play and others do not.
I do not know why those with no positive expectation games prohibit robot play. Some skeptics claim they retain the right to avoid paying big winners, simply by alleging robot play.
In this situation the casino has released a taped confession in which the player offers to sell the robot. However the player says it was taken out of context. Are there any basic strategy exceptions for doubling and splitting on the Internet when cash back applies to the total amount bet thus giving the player an extra incentive to double or split. Please assume a cash back rate of 0. I could not find any hand where an extra 0. The closest case I could find, based on six decks and the dealer standing on soft 17, is A,4 against a dealer 4.
In that hand doubling costs the player just under 0. So if you can get 0. I was at the Luxor this week and I noticed a blackjack machine that looked much like a video poker machine.
Do these things use random generators like online, or do they work like slot machines? Online blackjack, slot machines, and video blackjack all use random number generators. It is a Nevada state law that an electronic game with representations of cards or dice must be based on fair odds.
So the game should be fair with odds the same as in a hand dealt game having the same rules. I noticed that all video blackjack games that I've played in Vegas pay even money on a blackjack. Is this fair according to the rules of blackjack? Because in a previous question July 4, you said, "It is a Nevada state law that an electronic game with representations of cards or dice must be based on fair odds.
What I meant was that images of cards on the screen had to be statistically fair. For example if you took a tally of each card observed in the initial hand of video poker or video blackjack you would see the distribution approaching a flat line over time, much as you would in a hand dealt game. However there is no law that the standard rules of blackjack must be followed.
The machine can legally offer horrible rules like the player losing on ties. Hi, I found a Double Exposure game where the ties push. The full rules are: Dealer hits soft All ties push, except player wins tied blackjack. Player can double on hard 9 to 11 only. Player can re-split, including unlike tens, to four hands. Double after split allowed. Draw to split aces allowed. This must have a player advantage, can you tell me what it is? As I'm sure you know this game is offered by Lucky Chance casino.
Using the appropriate basic strategy for these rules the player advantage is 7. Wait it gets even better. The probability of getting three blackjacks in three hands is 1 in So I simply exited after every hand, except on a push. However I'm suspicious if the player advantage is too high. That is two red flags. It was my goal to either make a fortune on their Double Exposure game or prove the game was not fair. Following are my results:. The probability of only winning 3 or less is This is using a standard deviation of 1.
My source of the 1. This certainly does not rise anywhere near enough to make any accusations. In addition I recorded results all sorts of ways but every test came out looking normal. I would have played longer but the game play is extremely slow and I went broke.
The reason I went broke is I did worse on larger bet sizes and my first few hours I didn't record results but they were not good. So I failed on both my goals. I was too skeptical to deposit again and already wasted several hours on the game. However, if you wish to take a crack at it then be my guest. How would it change the strategy assuming Cryptologic rules 6 decks and how does it increase the house edge? Not being allowed to split aces increases the house edge by 0.
You should only double against a six, otherwise hit. In Boss Media single-deck blackjack the player has the edge? So I could go to one of the online casinos and play it using optimal strategy AND win over the long run? What am I missing? However if you are going to play anyway you may as well get the best odds possible.
Thank your for your informative column. I have been using the "Fun" mode to practice the basic blackjack strategy online Golden Palace and Grand Online Casino. I generally do well on the fun mode, but when I go to " Real Money " mode I start losing quickly using the same strategy.
Do the online casinos change the software randomness for "Fun" mode letting us win, only to entice us to deposit real money. I know the Elka casinos used to do this for which I blacklisted them , but fortunately they seem to have vanished.
If anyone can show me hard evidence that a casino is intentionally allowing players to win in fun mode I would be happy to investigate it. Hard evidence means, at a bare minimum, a record of hands won and lost in each mode, for several dozen hands. Simply telling me that you lost "a lot more" when in real mode is useless. Dear Wizard, I have read your comments about online blackjack and the fact that the decks are shuffled after each hand.
Is there a casino online that has less shuffling or if not, am I forced to play live dealer blackjack which has more decks stacked and at least I can be aware of when shuffling does occur. Perhaps you misunderstood the point I was trying to make in my blackjack appendix What it the correct play?
Does the discrepancy have to do with hand composition? The correct strategy is hit. I checked the source for the trainer, and it does appear this is a bug. In 2 or more decks S17 LS, you should surrender 15vT.
In 1 deck S17 LS, you should hit. The trainer is inaccurate, only in the one deck version. Thanks for pointing this out. Another option which might be nice for the next version: Those questions are going to depend on your edge and how willing you are to play with an advantage for these long periods.
See my other reply for advice on software or books to answer those questions. Your advantage is going to heavily depend on your bet spread, and the bet ramp. CVData software , to accurately sim any game and counting system, or the book Blackjack Attack for a ton of pre-figured stats on many games. Something I noticed is that the dealer will still hit even if their first two cards have a greater total than mine and its under No sane dealer in real life would hit when they already have a total greater than yours, right?
The dealer must follow the strict rules on hitting, and cannot choose to stand on a stiff total just because he would beat you. For more, see Blackjack Rules. Thanks for the BJ game. The black letters on the green are a little hard for me to see. Hi, can i use the basic srategy playing rng bj like the one playtech offer in many different online casino, will it have the same effect as playing live casino?
How about an option to turn off the card total display? I have a LONG way to go yet. It would be stellar if the trainer could be configured to only deal the most difficult combinations for the player.
The strategy engine on hitorsplit. I was wondering what should a player do if he lost the count of the cards dealt and does the count have to always be exact? The count does not have to be exact, but there are a few really dangerous mistakes you can make.
If for example, you flip the sign, turning a negative count into a positive count, that would make you bet bigger money into bad situations. Obviously an expensive mistake.
If you truly lose all track of where the count is, just flat-bet the minimum until the shuffle. Thank you very much I was also wondering should a player enter the deck just as it has been shuffled and if not how should a player determine a count when there is only half of the deck to start with?
You can start any time during the shuffle. Just think of the cards already in the discard tray as being behind the cut card instead. But everything works just the same. I was also wondering how should a player go about betting when counting say the minimum bet is 2 and the maximum 10 with the bankroll of at what count would you advise to increase bets from the minimum? Doubling down gives a chance to double the amount of your bet after seeing your first two cards.
You mentioned a hand with a total of 10 in the first two cards. For a full explanation of doubling, see Blackjack Rules: Part 3 — Player Choices. A new question regarding Lucky Lucky. I tried searching it up and apparently the Lucky Lucky LL bet is a profitable game when card counting is taken into consideration apparently 2 deck is best for it.
If you are expecting a bunch of face cards to peel off, or blackjacks and the dealer has a 10, you can still win those bets fairly often. Hello Again, I recently finished my first month of card counting adventures. There have been times where I have bet 20 units and lost 80 units from splits and dd. With your experience, what do you think a general estimated or spread would make hourly in betting units?
Hello thanks for previous answers, new question! I have a relatively small bankroll and comps and match plays really make a huge impact on my future game have not frequented many times yet , but wanted to clarify some thoughts. Match plays offer a huge boost for low limit players.
In fact the edge from coupons will often dwarf the rest of your advantage. Knowing that the probability of the next card being a 10 and more often busting than improving you, should you stand and pray the dealer has 6 or less and take that 10?
Or do you always hit since too many cards improve you and refer to basic strategy? Just always hit 12, 13, and 14 vs Ten. For 12vT and 13vT, the count basically never gets high enough to stand. With 14vT, the appropriate Hi-Lo index would be very high. Stand at 0 or higher. My Advanced cards have very precise indexes for 6 different sets of rules. Just started playing and want to get really good at black jack can u install a cheat such as best times to stay or hit?
So it becomes instinct after playing a few hundred hands. I assume you mean you would like a feature optional of course that shows you the correct play before you make the decision. The trainer already corrects you on mistakes, but I can see how some people may like an option to just see the best play beforehand.
Sort of like learning with flashcards. Sounds reasonable for the new version. I like it like it is. If you add the flashcard type version I hope you would make it an option like choosing how many decks, etc. If it were permanent I think I would think less before hitting, standing, or doubling down.
Can you make an option to get rid of the count? Adding them in my head helps me train. Overall this is my favorite trainer so far. No firm timeframe yet for the new version, but I know it is months away still. Hey Ken, its Brutus from the old forums. I never tried to play the game with the screen looking like it does. I just thought it looked so much different. I called my son and had him bring up the game, while Im talking to him I hit the play button, it delt the cards.
Stupid me , but I like the old screen better. I cant figure how to get rid of that stuff on the right and bring the game over. I would first check to see if your system can run at a higher resolution. At some point, the sidebar will reposition to below the game. Let me know if either of these ideas works.
Another thing to try is the Italian link to the game. Can you describe what you see instead of what you expect? Do you have Flash player installed and running in your browser?
You can test that, and see your Flash version number here: I really appreciate the Android app. I asked several months ago when an app for my Samsung tablet would be available. You promised it was in the works.
Thanks for following through. I misunderstood the app link — I thought it was you. I retract all my kudos and return to waiting mode. Got a couple of questions about strategy in such a situation;. Appreciate your help and any rationale you can provide for choices in these situations given the conditions of the table at which I shall be trying my luck. You can get a complete strategy chart for this exact game here: To answer your questions: The answers to 2 and 4 would change with peek, right?
And I do understand how vulnerable all players are with European style no peek. Answers 2 and 4 change with peek. It can be confusing! The next version of the trainer will make more information available about the rule choices. I think there are some flaws in your basic strategy regarding early surrender. The game recommended I surrender with 12 vs a dealer ace. It also recommended I surrender with a 7 vs an ace. To learn more, see my article Blackjack Surrender Explained. The game has been slow and jerky the last few days.
I have a very fast internet connection so I know the problem must be at your end. Once the current version of the trainer is loaded and running, it runs locally on your machine. Something has to be causing Flash to run slowly on your machine. Note that this will work completely differently in the eventual new version, which will be interacting with the server to provide additional features. Splitting 4s vs a dealer 5 or 6 is better only when the rules allow double after split.
If the actual numbers would help, here they are for a 6-deck S17 DAS game: Splitting 44v6 wins 0. Doubling makes only 0. You mention hitting 13v2, which is not correct. You probably meant hitting 12 against a 2 or a 3 up. Again, just trust basic strategy. With 8,4 vs 2, hitting loses 0. Standing is quite a bit worse, losing 0. Thanks for the feedback. If you could somehow put it into operation, this portal would be even more awesome than it is now. I like the ease of use. That makes it difficult to not make the same mistake in the future.
Also, this form says the email is optional. An explanation of why basic strategy recommends certain plays is on my list of future blog topics, and maybe the new trainer can offer a link to that when it is available. As for the emails not being optional when leaving a comment, thanks for letting me know!
I could never understand this about card counting. If the deck is rich in ten counts and aces…It is said it is too the advantage of the player….. How can it not be advantageous to the dealer if the dealer is drawing cards from the same rich deck? You are correct in thinking that the dealer is just as likely to get those extra face cards and Aces as you are.
But those cards are more valuable for the player for two reasons: If the dealer gets a blackjack, he only wins even money.
The dealer therefore busts more often when the deck is rich in face cards. Is this an error in the application or something I myself and missing? I think I see the problem… Ace,6,6,2 is hard 15, not hard Yep, you should hit that against a dealer ten. Chart I generated on the site says to Surrender or Stand with a dealer 10 but on a 9 or ace it says surrender or hit, I think I ran into this problem on this application and I looked at other strategy resources and they say to hit. So I guess my question is which one is it?
You are referring to this chart: Yet almost all other strategy charts including my own plastic cards! In fact, I wrote a whole article about it a year ago… See 16vT: I found a bug while playing this morning. Split 10s three times. The first hit was a 9 and I stand with a The second hit was an ace and have a 21, but am unable to proceed because the hit and stand buttons are not available. Thanks for the report. That sounds familiar as a bug. I love the trainer and how helpful it is; is it possible to add a feature explaining when to change from basic strategy?
Great site and thanks for all the info! Count-based strategy variations are on my list for consideration in the next version, so it may happen. Thanks for the feedback! The trainer does allow doubling on soft hands. You likely either chose a limited doubling rule like double 10,11 only, or you were out of funds. Hi Raymond, I notice you are visiting from a mobile device which likely does not support Flash. That did not change with the new website. Perhaps you were previously visiting from a desktop computer instead?
If you were previously able to access the trainer from your mobile device, please let me know. But I am unaware of any that support Flash.
By the way, now that the website design is complete, I can get to work creating a new version of the trainer. It consistently deals out high cards straight from the beginning. Time after time after time, I set it to 2 decks, and I see extremely negative counts, very quickly, and the reason is because lots of high cards come out straight at the beginning. Stranger things that one expects are conceivable can happen by chance.
In the School, the lesson at https: Many of it counting cards. This happens nearly every time. Thanks for the input Randy. I am no longer counting on blackjack to make me a million dollars. I play occasionally, but when I play…I play to win. I think this could be a great second job or play to earn some extra money, but to make a living doing this?
Anyways my opinion is that no matter how many decks there are, blackjacks should be dealt 7 times out of every cards in game play. The new display, i. It makes my eyes hurt. It causes distortions in perception and causes a loss in concentration. Please change back to the green background or anything easier on the eyes. Thank you for the service of the strategy trainer. On the screen colors, I may experiment with that a bit and see what I can come up with.
Can you quantify the change. I have been calculating the winning percentage at Is this about correct for the dealer hits soft option.
This seems to offer good odds. Thanks again for the Basic Strategy Charts and your many excellent articles. That is especially true when using the trainer. Thank you for everything, man. I am on vacation for six months and I have been on your site almost everyday for the past three. I have basic memorized and have started working counting in to my play.
Thank you for teaching me these skills through your site. The new format looks great. This is one poor trainer. The house has an unbelievable knack for pulling a Right out of their asses and making a 20 or Almost always beating you by 1.
Perfect work you have done, this web site is really cool with superb info. What type of device are you browsing on? What resolution are you using? I figured it out. These are called floaters and can be removed by adblock plus. It can be adjusted to make the dealer hit on a soft 17 in he options mode.
The goal in Blackjack is to beat the Dealer, not to get as close to 21 as you can. It seems like it teaches people to stay home if they want to win. If you play long enough you will lose. Got my ass absolutely beaten. Thanks for teaching me how to take insurance by the way. I forgot to thank you earlier. The splitting problem has been fixed. Thanks for bringing it to our attention! George hi having same problem as MT spliting pairs like a and 8 only geting one card.
Same here, when you split a pair, you do NOT have the opportunity to play the second hand. Ken, What is the difference between early and late surrender?
Ken, I played shoes in blackjack strategy trainer. What would be the result estimated for a real game in this style? Can I expect the same odds of wining on your site vs live action? I recommend you stay away from the casino. The trainer shuffles randomly, and deals normally. Your winning streak is the result of luck. Hello, I think there is one issue in trainer program. Thanks for ALL of the free information and training aids! Can I play more than one box in casino Verite or is just one box allowed to play?
Ken, Will improve the question. Which table I sit? That betting should I do? Should I worry about the commission? Ken, I found the following game: The Game is very Good. Hello Again, I stumbled across this hand index recently on a 8 deck shoe with good rules when am I supposed to double down on a hard 12 against 5 and 6. Thank you for your quick response, follow up question! Making the hand total display optional is planned for the next version. Play all of them you can.
Making the hand value display optional is on the feature list of the new version. Thanks for letting me know! Have you tried a different browser, like Chrome or Firefox? I enjoy your blackjack game.
